Hiya Launches First-Ever Customized Call Protection Solution to Stop Spam and Fraud

SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Hiya, the leading voice security platform, today announced that Personal AI, a powerful new capability to protect users from fraud and the annoyance of unwanted calls, is now available on the Hiya network. Personal AI augments Hiya Protect to be nearly twice as effective as other call protection solutions against the ever-changing tactics used by phone spammers and scammers.

According to the latest data from Hiya, spam and fraudulent calls have increased by 30% since the start of the year, with some people receiving up to 15 unwanted calls a day, making it increasingly difficult for subscribers to identify and answer the calls they really want to receive. . Most global mobile carriers don’t have call protection services in place to fix the problem, but now, with a custom solution, they can safely prevent wanted calls from connecting as well.

Hiya’s personal AI system tackles this problem by understanding what makes a call wanted in the first place. Using data on how call recipients interacted with callers, including response rate, known contacts, talk time, time of call, etc., Personal AI of Hiya can determine whether or not a call is wanted for a subscriber, in real time. Personal AI allows operators to be significantly more aggressive against unwanted calls without shutting down calls subscribers actually want to receive.

Personal AI knows that a call from a single phone number may be spam for one person but an important call for another. For instance:

  • An insurance company calling a customer about a claim they have filed is a wanted call and should not be reported or blocked.

  • An unsolicited call from the same insurance company to someone who is not a customer is much more likely to be considered spam by that person.

“We know that consumers judge calls differently based on a range of factors and circumstances, so a spam call for you could be a wanted call for me,” said Alex Algard, CEO of Hiya. “The magic of Personal AI is that what makes it effective at spotting unwanted calls is also what enables it to deliver more calls that recipients actually want – and it’s constantly improving over time.”

Hiya Protect, which powers Samsung Smart Call, the Hiya app, and more, is now available with personal and fully configurable AI to allow operators to determine key parameters such as illegal call detection sensitivity, data sources to use to identify calls, and how to label calls for consumers – without additional delay for call delivery. Hiya Protect serves more than 200 million active users in more than 60 countries, which represents more than half a billion daily phone calls.
