How to move apps from the app library to your iPhone home screen

Want to move an app from the app library to your iPhone home screen? Here are two ways to do it.

App Store magnified on iPhone screen

In previous versions of iOS, every app on your iPhone appeared on the Home screen. But with the introduction of the App Library in iOS 14, that’s no longer the case. Nowadays, you can remove apps from the Home screen and organize them out of sight in the App library.

This is great if you’re aiming for a clean homescreen, but it may take longer to find the apps you use every day. That’s why we’re going to show you how to add home screen apps in the guide below.

Option 1. Drag apps from the app library to the home screen

The fastest way to move apps from the App library to your iPhone’s Home screen is to drag them.

First, swipe right to left on your home screen to find the app library. Then find the app you want to move by searching through the different categories or hitting the search bar at the top of the page.

When you’ve found the app you’re looking for, press and hold for one second, until you feel a tapping or hear a click, then slide your finger to the left of the screen to drag it to the home screen.

You can now drop the app exactly where you want it or go back to the right edge of the screen to add it on a new home screen.

Option 2. Press and hold to add apps to the home screen

Add to Home screen option in the application menu

Dragging an app to the Home screen requires precise timing of the touch and hold; a simpler option is to open an app’s action menu and press Add to home screen.

When you’ve found the app you want to move, press and hold it until a menu appears, then touch Add to home screen.

The app will appear in the next free space on your home screen, creating a new home screen if needed.

Make sure all new apps are saved on your home screen

If you want to make sure that new iPhone apps always appear on your home screen, rather than saving directly to the app library, you need to change an option in settings.

Just go to Settings> Home screen and activate the option of Add to home screen.

Keep your iPhone home screen organized

The App Library, while a divisive source, has introduced new ways to organize apps on your iPhone’s Home screen. You can use it to minimize app clutter, hide particular home screens, and effortlessly organize your apps.
