Palo Alto Networks Powers PLDT-Smart Child Protection Platform – Back End News

PLDT and wireless arm Smart Communications are further stepping up the fight against online child sexual abuse and exploitation by tapping cybersecurity solutions company Palo Alto Networks to develop a child protection platform.

PLDT and Smart constantly updated the audience of the number of content or URLs the providers blocked each month. The most recent report says the two companies, through their own cybersecurity group, blocked more than 224,000 URLs related to online child abuse in April this year.

Child protection platform powered by Palo Alto Networks blocks content-level traffic and complies with regulatory requirements for illegal child sexual exploitation material (CSAM). Palo Alto’s next-generation network firewalls (NGFW) and cloud-delivered security services, including threat prevention, advanced URL filtering, and WildFire, examine content and convert URLs for redirection if CSAM-related traffic is found. By matching the blocked URLs with the blocked list policy, the implemented solution will then alert PLDT and Smart that the user is trying to access CSAM.

“As children’s attack surface expands due to increased time spent online for study and entertainment, a scalable cybersecurity solution must be implemented to keep them safe online,” said said Oscar Visaya, Philippines country manager at Palo Alto Networks. “By providing the technology infrastructure for the child protection platform, our collaboration with PLDT and Smart and their extensive network coverage will accelerate our vision to protect the next generation of CSAM content.”

Bolstering its efforts, in addition to Palo Alto Networks, companies have joined international alliances, voiced support for government initiatives, and forged strategic alliances.

Palo Alto Networks, for its part, promises to ensure that the solution it provides to the PLDT and smart child protection platform is designed with scale and speed to incorporate any future challenges that may arise in the fight against perpetrators of sexual abuse and exploitation of children online.
