When you ask a credit card enthusiast how they keep track of their points and miles, they may show you a complicated spreadsheet that they use to calculate the point totals for various rewards programs. While there are a few apps, like AwardWallet and MaxRewards, that allow consumers to track their points and miles, there aren’t a ton of options for everyday consumers trying to make the most of it. of their credit card rewards programs.
With that in mind, a team from The Points Guy has been working over the past two years to design the TPG app that helps users see how many rewards they’ve earned on all of their credit cards and then offers advice on how to maximize earnings. and redeem those rewards. The app is now available for iOS in the App Store and will be available in the Google Play Store in a few months.
“Our main goal is to get people to earn more points and then, most importantly, redeem them,” said Brian Kelly, Founder and CEO of The Points Guy. “Especially with the pandemic, people are living up to their gills. They spend every day, but they don’t travel, so it creates a unique situation where there are so many things hanging around, and people just don’t know how to use them. “
In the future, Kelly is also anticipating a future web version of the app.
Features of the TPG application
There are three main features of the TPG app – learn, earn and burn – says Mitchell Stoutin, the app’s chief developer.
The “Learn” feature is the app’s home page and displays articles from the TPG website, so users can read credit card and travel information and tips on the go.
The “Earn” feature helps users understand their credit card spending habits. Users can link their credit cards and the app will aggregate the information about each of the cards. Users can track their progress towards earning their Welcome Bonus, see if their previous transactions maximized the amount of Cash Back or Rewards they could earn, and see which card will earn the most Cash Back at a certain retailer. The app is location sensitive, so users can set it up to receive push notifications based on where they’re shopping.
The “Earn” feature also allows users to view the status of their hotel rewards programs. Users can see the expiration date on their hotel rewards, the loyalty status of their hotel rewards, and the benefits that come with that status.
Users can also see TPG estimated redemption values for various points and miles programs, so they can be sure they are getting the most value when redeeming their rewards.
The “Burn” tool is intended for users who wish to spend their rewards. There is a trip planner that allows users to choose where they want to fly. The app populates the flight options which show the available flights and air transfer partners based on your maps. If you can get a cheaper flight without going through a transfer partner airline, the app will note that as well. You can book your entire flight using your credit card rewards in the app.
Thanks to TPG’s expertise in credit cards and hotel rewards, its new app, packed with features that show people how to earn and spend their points, has the potential to make points and miles play a lot. easier to manage and maximize for both. enthusiasts and enthusiasts of credit cards.
