Voters will decide if Monte Creek will get a fire protection service | infonews

Voters in the Thompson Nicola Regional District will decide this month whether Monte Creek should get its own fire protection department.

On Saturday, May 28, qualified voters in electoral areas P and L of the Regional District will be able to vote in the referendum on the Monte Creek Fire Department.

The proposed service would result in a new fire department that would provide structural fire protection to homes and businesses in the Monte Creek area, according to a TNRD news release.

The service would include building a new fire station, purchasing a fire truck, firefighting equipment and recruiting volunteer firefighters, according to the regional district.

Qualified voters will have two options to vote in person, at an advance polling day on May 18 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the fourth floor of the TNRD Civic Building, 300-465 Victoria St. in Kamloops or on Election Day general on May 28, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the BC Livestock office at 10145 Dallas Dr. in Kamloops.

Postal voting will also be available.
